Vital Records section processes certificates for all births and deaths occuring within the county. The department is made aware of deaths through sources such as newspaper obituaries and by notifications from hospitals and funeral homes.
These records are filed permanently in the Vital Records Branch in Raleigh and certified or verified on demand.
